Informa: 3.3b Mobile Phone Subscribers

At the end of September there were 3.3 billion mobile phone subscribers, making worldwide mobile penetration 50%, according to a report from Informa. There were mobile networks operating in 224 countries, up from 192 countries in 1997 and 35 in 1987. Kuwait’s MTC has the highest average revenue per unit (ARPU) in the world, at about $71.
